Social, Moral, Spiritual & Cultural - Personal Development
At All Saints Church School we recognise that the personal development of pupils, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve.
We aim to:
-
Provide a balanced, engaging and broad education that gives our children opportunities to explore and develop their own, values and beliefs, spiritual awareness.
-
Encourage a positive and caring attitude towards other people; an understanding of British Values and its social and cultural traditions as well as an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures.
Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development is promoted, not only through all the subjects of the curriculum, but also through the ethos of the school and our shared values.
As a school, we use a scheme called Scarf to support us in our teaching.
Scarf is more than a PSHE Scheme of Work. It provides a structured programme of personal development to nurture the ‘whole child’ and increase learning capacity, underpinned by mindfulness philosophy and practice.
SCARF's whole-school approach supports us by giving us everything we need to meet the new Relationships Education and Health Education statutory requirements. More than just a PSHE scheme of work, SCARF supports great learning every day. SCARF represents our values for children of Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship.
Meeting all DfE requirements for statutory Relationships and Health Education, and mapped to the PSHE Association's Programme of Study, SCARF is a framework consisting of lesson plans, online planning, assessment and Ofsted tools to give busy teachers skills and confidence to embed a comprehensive Relationships and Health Education, PSHE Education and Wellbeing programme throughout the primary years. SCARF is a whole-school approach to promoting behaviour, safety, achievement and well-being.
At All Saints Church School, we believe that the wellbeing of our pupils is the foundation for successful learning and personal growth. We are committed to creating a nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued, and supported to thrive both academically and emotionally, becoming the best version of themselves.
Our approach to wellbeing is woven into every aspect of school life—from our curriculum and pastoral care to our daily routines and relationships. We encourage our children to develop through our values of wisdom, love, friendship, perseverance, respect and community, helping them to become confident and caring individuals.
As part of our commitment to preparing pupils for life in modern Britain, we actively promote the fundamental British values of:
-
Democracy – encouraging pupil voice and participation in decision-making.
-
The Rule of Law – helping children understand the importance of rules and laws in keeping everyone safe and fair.
-
Individual Liberty – supporting children to make informed choices and express themselves freely and responsibly.
-
Mutual Respect and Tolerance – fostering respect for others, celebrating diversity, and promoting understanding of different cultures and beliefs.
Together, our focus on wellbeing and British values helps children to grow into respectful, responsible citizens who are ready to contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
